Education in Biology

The story of mankind revolves around scientific inventions and discoveries. Ever since civilization dawned on this world, humans have been driven by an urge to known the unknown and see the unseen. All the wonders of nature have always fascinated the curious and inquisitive eyes of man. Firstly, it was the world immediately around him that made him wonder about the unexplained. All the natural phenomena that took place around him prompted him to ask questions. Next came the outer space and the wondrous mysteries surrounding the cosmos. Day to day events such as the sunrise and the sunset, the moon rise and the tides made mankind flustered with astonishment.

Due to lack of proper understanding of science so early in the history, early men took the natural occurrences as supernatural phenomena and worshiped them as some kind of godlike beings. However, the story of scientific revelation then entered the self, that is, human body. Biological science or Biology deals with the study of life and natural surroundings. It may refer to the study of the plant and the animal kingdom as well. As a frontier field of natural sciences, Education in Biology aims at providing a thorough understanding of topics such as how life originated on this planet, the evolution of species and their reciprocal relationship with all the living organisms ranging from micro to macro levels. Education in Biology encompasses a broad spectrum of interrelated academic disciplines including zoology, botany, molecular biology, medicine, microbiology and so on.

Almost all the related areas of study have more than one sub-fields dealing with specific topics. Education in Biology loosely refers to the study of any one or at the most a couple of connected branches. Each of the disciplines covers specialized areas of knowledge. For instance, zoology discusses the study of animal kingdom; molecular biology examines the subject at molecular level.

Education in Biology may also encompass other branches of science. Knowledge of chemistry is a must to study molecular biology and biochemistry.

Physiology is an extremely important interdisciplinary branch of biology that deals with the study of organisms and their diverse physical as well as chemical mechanisms. Ecology, which is another crucial field, discusses the environmental aspects. This subject studies about the interaction between different micro and macro level organisms and the environment.

Among the more recent branches of biology, cellular biology is very prominent. It is a mainstream discipline that studies cells, the building block of life.

Apart from the frontier and interdisciplinary fields of biology, there are quite a few applied divisions as well. Medicine is significantly composite in nature for it encompasses a wide array of other fields as well.

Education in Biology has assumed much relevance these days, following the outbreak of various acute diseases.
