While we talk of Formal and Non Formal Education, we first need to know the actual meaning of formal and informal education. The term formal education refers to the structured educational system provided by the state for children. In most countries, the formal education system is state-supported, while in some countries, the state allows and certifies private systems of education which provide a comparable system of education.
In contrast, non-formal education refers to education which takes place outside of the school.
Most importantly, the term non-formal education is used to refer to adult literacy and continuing education for adults. On Formal and Non Formal Education there’s a strong focus on formal education that assumes that such education will be successful. Its important to note that a strong focus on adult education or literacy leads to the creation of the fact that literate parents will insist that their children go to school and become literate, whereas illiteracy breeds illiteracy. There are different Types of Formal and Non Formal Education.
Formal and Non Formal Education forms an important part of the education system in our country. However, parents make decisions about schooling based on various factors. It’s often seen that when local, regional, or national economic conditions are not good, parents, even literate parents, may resist sending their children to school. When this specific problem of literacy is noticed, it becomes a structural part of the country and becomes difficult to eradicate. On the other hand, elementary school aims at providing children aged between 6 and 12 the six years of general elementary education, which is well suited to the relevant stage of their physical and mental development. Lower secondary school aims at providing children aged between 12 and 15 with the three years of general secondary education suited to the relevant stage of their physical and mental development, which is based on the education they have received in elementary school.
Formal and Non Formal Education has basic differences. Formal education is classroom-based, accompanied by trained teachers. Informal education happens outside the classroom, in after-school programs, community-based organizations, museums, libraries, or at home. Both formal and informal education settings offer different strengths to educational outreach project. After-school programs offer a different kind of environment, where ones activities don't need to be as formal and once can easily reach the audience. While both schools and after-school programs serve students, at school blossom in after-school settings. Real learning can happen in a setting where kids feel less intimidated or more comfortable than they do in a formal classroom.
