The University of California, Berkeley (also known as UC Berkeley or Cal) is the world's premier public university, established in the year 1868. It is the most consistently well ranked university in the world and has the largest number of highly ranked graduate programs in the United States. The university has around 130 academic departments and programs which are organized into 14 colleges and schools. It offers more than 7,000 courses in some 350 degree programs. The university has an enrollment of around 35,838 students including 25,540 undergraduates and 10,298 graduates. Currently, there are 1,582 fulltime and 500 part-time faculty members and a total of 21 faculty have been named Nobel Prize winners, including the 8 current faculty members.
