Description/ About the Institution The University of California, San Diego (also known as UCSD or UC San Diego) is a world-renowned university for excellence in education and research at the undergraduate, graduate, professional school and postdoctoral levels. It was founded in 1960 and consists of six undergraduate colleges, five academic divisions and five graduate and professional schools. The university has an enrollment of around 29,899 students. It employs many of the world's leading scholars in a variety of disciplines. There are around 7,566 faculty members, including eight Nobel Laureates. There are over 130,000 live alumini of UC San Diego across the globe. Among the best known are members of the Apple Macintosh development team- Bill Atkinson and Bud Tribble, science fiction author- Gregory Benford and actor Robert Buckley.
